Malema snubbed and escorted to prison

Cops to the rescue as youth firebrand is taunted at Mangosuthu varsity ANC Youth League president Julius Malema got a taste of his own medicine when he was taunted by angry students at the Mangosuthu University of Technology in Umlazi.

Malema had hoped to speak to students at the university yesterday, where the SRC is controlled by the IFP-aligned South African Democratic Students Movement. Police had to use pepper spray to disperse unruly students who were toyi-toying and singing anti-Malema songs.

They called him a “fool who failed matric dismally”. His matric results had been printed and distributed to students.

As soon as he arrived, Malema was whisked off to administrator Jonathan Jansen’s office, where he had a brief meeting with him before going to speak to a handful of students aligned to the South African Students Congress.

Addressing the ANC-aligned students in a hall tucked away from the angry IFP supporters, Malema attacked his party’s opponents, especially the DA and the IFP, and also defended the recalling of former president Thabo Mbeki.

He also took a swipe at IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi.

“The IFP is not a political party, but a cultural movement. That is why every time its leader makes a speech, he talks about the Zulus ...”
