Man held for missing number plates
A man was arrested in Sandton for failing to display both his front and rear vehicle licence plates, Johannesburg metro police said on Friday.
Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the driver of a black Audi SR4 was arrested on Thursday afternoon at the corner of Marlboro drive and Southway road.
Metro police stopped the car and discovered that both the licence plates were in the car's boot.
A driver who purposely failed to display his or her motor vehicle licence plates could now be arrested under regulation 35, sub-regulation 5 of the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Act, Minnaar said.
There was no fine for such an offence and the driver would have to appear in court for the offence.
Motorists should be aware of the new legislation and can get arrested for certain offences, Minnaar said.
The man, in his thirties, would appear in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Friday. - Sapa
