PMB task team aims at July resolve
Concerns about the inclusion of Regulation 8 relating to medical schemes compliance to prescribed minimum benefits (PMB) legislation in their early discussions, the PMB Task Team members’ deliberations on developing a code of conduct on PMB compliance. were put on hold until the Council for Medical Schemes (CMS) confirmed that Regulation 8 would be withdrawn from the discussions.
The CMS issued a notice on June 8 that “members of the team are again informed that the interpretation of Regulation 8 of the Medical Schemes Act (Act 131 of 1998) will not be included in the reference of the task team” – also indicating that deadline for arriving at a code of conduct would be July 15.
The task team comprises four representative groups, led by the regulators comprising the CMS, the Department of Health and the Health Professions Council, followed by medical practitioner, hospitals and consumer representatives.
